Aerobatics Training including the AOPA Aerobatic Certificate (Basic & Standard Levels) |
Ultimate High is one of only three recommended aerobatics training "Schools of excellence" in the UK. We offer tailored training by the hour in the Bulldog, Chipmunk or Extra300, along with the AOPA Aerobatic Certificate Courses.
We are also now delighted to be able to offer tailored Competition Aerobatics training in the Extra300 with expert tuition by Nick Wakefield. Nick is an authorised BAeA coach and is a former Advanced Level National Champion, and has represented the British Team at Unlimited and Advanced levels.
AOPA Aerobatic Certificate Course - Basic & Standard There are no CAA or JAA recognised aerobatic "qualifications" in the UK; the AOPA Basic and Standard Aerobatic Certificates are the only recognised UK aerobatics courses. AOPA and the British Aerobatics Association (BAeA) have designed the syllabus in order to encourage those pilots who wish to become proficient in the basic aerobatic manoeuvres to undertake training through a properly structured formal course.
AOPA Basic Aerobatic Certificate

Satisfactory completion of the flying, theoretical syllabus, and test leading to the AOPA Basic Aerobatic Certificate show that the holder is competent to safely fly aerobatic manoeuvres for which they have been cleared. The manoeuvres learnt will also enable the student to take part in the Beginners' events organised by the BAeA.
Ultimate High students who have passed the course will be able to fly those manoeuvres as aircraft captain, subject to normal currency/ aircraft conversion requirements. The course is 8 hours of flying, including 15 hours of ground instruction and around 10-12 sorties. It normally takes 4-5 days, weather permitting.
Students may commence the course at any time after qualifying for a Private Pilots' Licence or National Private Pilot's Licence; we recommend that pilots normally have a minimum of 50 hours P1.
AOPA Standard Aerobatic Certificate The AOPA Standard Course ensures that students are capable of entering the next level of BAeA competiton, which is the Standard Level. The course is 6 hours of flying and a minimum of 6 hours of ground training and normally takes 3-4 days.
This course takes place in the Bulldog. A candidate may commence the course at any time after qualifying for the AOPA Basic Aerobatic Certificate. There are no minimum pre-entry hour or time requirements to enter the course of training.
More info: * Courses normally start on a Monday. Due to busy schedules and the considerable amount of ground briefing, we are generally unable to start new courses on other days. * Upon completion of the course, students are required to have their competence assessed in the air by an AOPA registered instructor; it should be noted that this test flight is additional to the time required for the course. When the test has satisfactorily been completed, it may be sent off to AOPA accompanied by a small fee, who will then issue a certificate. * Click here for latest prices and FAQ
