One of Ultimate High's Bulldogs is regularly competed in the 3Rs series of Air Races, which this weekend took place at Le Treport. Intrepid aviators Craig Beevers and Ally Allan took G-RAIG to first place in both the Saturday and Sunday races, putting them in an excellent position for the 2005 championship.
Saturday saw Craig and Ally win the Michel Dorre trophy, named after the fabled and famous French fighter pilote, and they were also awarded the Cross Channel Challenge trophy, presumably for having the best looking aeroplane(!). Despite having their handicap adjusted against them for the Sunday race, they followed this up with another victory and were awarded the Battle of Brirain Challenge Trophy.
Air racing is all about accurate flying and best use of the wind gradient, and all aircraft are tracked very precisely using GPS; the winner is normally the pilot who deviates least from their ideal track. On the Sunday race of 145nm, the GPS showed that Craig and Ally deviated from their hypothetically perfect track by the ridiculously small amount of just 800m! |
