The Spitfire is the iconic British Fighter aircraft that famously helped to win the Battle of Britain. Now YOU can fly the aircraft that is used to train Spitfire Pilots - and learn more about flying the Spitfire!
Ultimate High are offering the opportunity for guests with no flying experience to participate in a fascinating experience where they will be briefed on what it's like to fly the Spitfire, understand how pilots are converted onto the aeroplane, and get the opportunity to have a lesson in the "Spitfire trainer" itself - the superlative Chipmunk.
The Chipmunk is still used today by the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as preparation for their pilots to learn to fly and display the Spitfire and Hurricane. It is universally loved by pilots and regarded as one of the finest handling aircraft ever built.
Typical Half Day | |
| Welcome & Kit Out | You will be kitted out in a military flying suit |
| Briefing | You will be taught how to fly the Chipmunk and what it's like to fly the Spitfire. The briefing includes a detailed safety/parachute brief. |
| At aircraft | Strap on parachute. Cockpit Controls and Safety Brief. |
| Flight | You will experience a gentle aerobatics training flight with particular reference to the techniques required to fly the Spitfire. The trip will be tailored to you and you will be encouraged to fly manoeuvres in this wonderfully co-ordinated aeroplane yourself. |
| Debrief | Debrief with your instructor and flight certificate. Please note that DVDs of your flight are NOT available. |

| Duration | You will be with us for 2-3 hours (start times are usually 9.30 or 13.00). Your flying time is around 35 minutes and briefing around 40 minutes. |
| Medical criteria | Chipmunk weight limit is 15 stone 7 lbs. Please refer to our FAQ for more information. |

All flights in the Chipmunk take place in conjunction with fly2help, a registered charity, which aims to lift the horizons of people through the medium of flight. The charity supports those with life-limiting and chronic illnesses; families who have suffered some form of tragedy, and those who are working to recover a sense of self-worth and need a life-boost. A donation is made for every Chipmunk flight. |
