Advanced IMC Training and IMC Renewals in the Bulldog
Ultimate High offers tailored IMC training for those pilots who have already completed the basic IMC course, or wish to experience/improve their Instrument flying or renew/revalidate their IMC Rating. This course covers the basics as well as more advanced techniques derived from military training.
Benefits of training with Ultimate High:
Highly experienced instructors with a mix of military, commercial and GA experience flying under IFR. Instructors are career instructors and commercial pilots, not hours builders.
Bulldog aircraft has full IFR fit, additional GPS kit, and was used for basic IR training with the RAF.
Very stable platform for instrument training (basic & applied). Variable pitch propeller gives excellent climb performance to maximise instructional time. Fuel injection, so no risk of engine icing.
Local area facilities mean cost effective use of flying time.
Access to precision and non-precision approaches at RAF Brize Norton (transit time 5-7 minutes).
Access to commercial training airfields Bristol Filton and Gloucester/Staverton (transit times 5-10 minutes).
Full range of approach aids available at local airfields - ILS, PAR, NDB, DME, with access to military talk down approaches at RAF Brize Norton & Lyneham.
Access to Surveillance Radar Approaches (SRA).
Locator beacon at Kemble for basic tracking and holding training (very cost effective).
Modern briefing facilities mostly using powerpoint slides.
Our Advanced IMC (AIMC) course is recommended for:
-
IMCR currency and improvement
-
Preparation for IMCR revalidation/renewal
-
PPL safety training - as an extension to the PPL course which includes 2 hours of instrument flight (IF).
The AIMC course
5 hours (4 flights) of flying, 15 hours of ground school (allow 3-4 days) to include:
-
ILS, NDB approaches
-
Precision approaches including military approaches/radar talkdown
-
Non-precision approaches including SRA
-
Flying in controlled air space
-
Advanced emergency recoveries
-
Unusual attitudes
-
Revalidation/Renewal flight (additional to the above as required)
IMC Revalidation/Renewal:
Your IMC rating is valid for 25 months and must be revalidated by a test with an authorised examiner. The test will involve some route work, with NDB and/or VOR tracking, general handling skills, full and partial panel. An NDB procedure and an ILS approach are also necessary. If one type of approach has been completed prior to this test, and is deemed successful by an appropriately rated instructor, then only the other type of approach needs to be demonstrated in the test itself.
Minimum weather conditions are 1800m vis, 1100ft cloud.
