In order to celebrate ten years of flight safety training for GA pilots, Ultimate High is introducing for the first time in 2012 a series of Group Safety Seminars, which will be delivered both as purely ground based training – our ‘Sunday Safety Seminars’ - and also in a series of introductory flying days.
The training sessions are primarily aimed at existing PPLs who are either low houred (less than 500 hrs P1) or who feel it would be useful to become more current on the specific issue or subject to be reviewed.
Sunday Safety Seminars
Our ground based training sessions start at 1030 in the Ultimate High crewroom in the Control Tower at Cotswold Airport, giving our delegates plenty of time to fly in if required and take advantage of the discounted/free landing fees. The subjects will be covered in depth with a brief introduction to ensure everybody present is on the same page. The presentations will take place on an interactive basis and are scheduled to take 2 ½ hours. A light lunch (included in the seminar price) will then be provided and the instructor will lead an open forum on the subject of the day.
The subjects that will be covered over the 2012 season are as follows.
March 18th Engine failure in the circuit - EFATO, turnbacks, glide landings
April 15th Aerobatics* – exploring the flight envelope
April 29th Human Factors and CRM in the single pilot environment
May 13th Upset recovery* – all types of stalls and UPs, spin avoidance and recovery
May 27th Accident analysis – learning from other people’s misfortune
June 10th Forced landings* – how to get them right first time every time
July 8th Pilots’ Weather – what you really need to know about Go/No-go decisions
August 5th Introduction to Formation flying*
Sept 9th Flying technologically advanced GA aircraft – what to look out for
October 7th Navigation with and without GPS – and how best to transit controlled airspace
Places will be limited to 30 per session and must be paid for in advance at £20 per head.

Sunday Taster Flying Days
Our taster days will give delegates an introduction to the area being covered, either to determine whether or not your existing level of competency is appropriate, to decide whether it is an area that might be worth pursuing in the future, or just for pure fun!
April 29th - Introduction to Aerobatics - Bulldog or Extra300
A loop, ballistic (aileron) roll and a stall turn will be demonstrated, and you can try each of these yourself.
May 27th - UP recovery and Spin special - Bulldog or Extra300 (Spin is Extra only)
You will be shown (or revise) the main types of Unusual Position recovery, including the vertical or ballistic recovery, and practice them yourself. In the Extra, you will be given the opportunity to see and/or practice entrance to and recovery from 3 spins, which can include from manoeuvre and/or inverted.
June 24th - Forced landing masterclass - Bulldog only
Depending on your preference, you will be demonstrated or taught through a constant sight line angle forced landing including the use of sideslip, and will practice these techniques.
August 19th - Formation Flying - Bulldog or Extra300
Flying as a 2- or 3-ship formation, you will have demonstrated to you the skills and techniques used to keep station in formation. You will also have the opportunity to practise under close supervision. This will absolutely NOT clear you to fly formation as P1!
Places will be limited to 18 per session for the Bulldog and 12 per session for the Extra. The Taster days will be charged at £130** for 30 minutes in the Bulldog and £175* for 20 minutes in the Extra 300. Times shown are airborne plus a 10 minute taxi allowance. Prices are wet and include use of flying suits, headsets and landing fee, as well as briefing and debriefing.
**Students who have attended the relevant Sunday Safety Seminar will receive a £10 discount on these prices.
