Roger spent 36 years in the RAF, flying Gnat, Hunter, Hawk, Jet Provost, Varsity, Dominie & Hercules aircraft and has over 11,000 flying hours. He has flown many operational tours around the world as a C-130 Hercules captain and instructor, including the Falklands, Africa, Oman, Iraq, Afghanistan.
Skilfully lying about his age, he airlifted dependents out of Cyprus during the Turkish invasion in 1974, carried out air-to-air refuelling in the South Atlantic following the Falklands war in 1982, helped with humanitarian work during the Ethiopian famine relief in 1984-5, and operated in the Balkans. He also flew in both Gulf wars.
Rog also managed to squeeze in a tour on the Hawk and displayed the Vintage Aircraft Teams Jet Provost 4. He spent two seasons dropping the Falcons parachute display team (but they still kept coming back) and was also a display pilot on the famous "Green Barrows" Hercules Formation Team.
He is still a part-time Herc instructor in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, but today prefers the more stimulating world of instructing with Ultimate High.
