Spin-Upset and Safety Training with Ultimate High

Some pilots feel that practising recoveries from unusual positions (UPs) or incipient spins is only required by aerobatic pilots to recover from botched manoeuvres.  The real truth is that ALL pilots need to be current and proficient in recognising the onset of a UP or Incipient Spin as quickly as possible so that they can immediately make the correct control inputs to recover the aeroplane safely with a minimum loss of height.

- If you find yourself in a situation (EFATO) where you have to make a steep descending
   turn and get distracted by handling an emergency;
- If you are unlucky enough to fly through the slipstream or jet wash of a large aircraft;
- If you encounter a standing wave to the lee of a mountain;
- If you are caught in the strong up- or down-draft beside a developing cumulo nimbus;
Your aircraft can very quickly be thrown into an unusual position.

What happens next and the success or otherwise of the outcome is entirely down to you.

Statistics show that one of the largest causes of both accidents and incidents is pilot loss of control in the immediate aftermath of an emergency.
  Flying safely close to the slow speed edge of the performance envelope is a perishable skill which needs to be practised regularly in order to maximise the pilot's and passengers' chances of survival following an emergency.

Extra300 Spin

We recommend that you fly at least an hour of upset, stall and spin training every year, and ideally 2-3 hours.  At Ultimate High, we focus on scenario based training where you will be given the opportunity to practice the early recognition of and immediate recovery from the types of situation that are most likely to kill you in the real world.
