ENHANCE YOUR PILOTING SKILLS

UPRT, Emergencies, Better Landings, Improved General Handling

We offer a range of training tailored to you – with the prime aim of promoting safety, increasing your confidence and enhancing your piloting skills.

These can be booked as one-off flights which can be used to revalidate your SEP (1 hour with an instructor required every 2 years), or can be combined into several flights/days.

Options include:

  • UPRT – Upset Prevention and Recovery Training for GA Pilots
  • Emergencies – decision-making under pressure
  • Better Landings – stabilised approaches and circuit discipline, including RT
  • Improve your General Handling Skills

All training is one-to-one and tailored to you, so that you get the maximum benefit of your time with our instructor.

You will learn from very high quality instruction from our experienced instructor pilots who have worked in the GA, Military and Commercial world for many years.

You will be flying in high performance aircraft, the T67M260 Slingsby Firefly and free air space close to Goodwood, which means that you will get maximum benefit from your time in the air.

Each of the options below can be flown as 1 or 2 flights.  Before you fly, your instructor will spend time with you to establish what you want to ensure that you get the training you require.

Flights are generally available Monday-Thursday inclusive.  The length of each flight is around 1 hour and you will also receive a comprehensive brief and debrief.

Enhance your piloting sills

A range of training tailored to you – with the prime aim of promoting safety, increasing your confidence and enhancing your piloting skills.

EMERGENCIES: DECISION MAKING UNDER PRESSURE - TEM AND THE "CAPACITY BUCKET"

Learn “coping” strategies so you maintain situational awareness (“SA”) and capacity.  Understand the “Capacity Bucket” and utilise “TEM” (Threat & Error Management) to good effect.  Our experienced instructors will tailor the training to help you to develop your captaincy, airmanship, decision making under pressure and ability to deal with emergencies.

Flight Exercises may include:

  • EFATOs
  • Engine Failure / Fire & restart drills
  • Partial Engine Failure
  • Electrical problems, instrument failure, birdstrike
  • Emergency memory items (initial actions or IA)
  • Forced Landings LSO PFL
  • Different ways to fly the PFL
  • High Key/Low Key positioning approach
  • Constant Sight Line angle
  • Wind assessment
  • RT fail procedure and rejoin
BETTER LANDINGS - STABILISED APPROACHES & CIRCUIT DISCIPLINE, INCLUDING RT

“Good Approach, Good Landing” – old, but true.  Learn how to fly a stabilised approach, refresh circuit pattern flying and joining procedures, improve your RT (Radio Transmission).

Flight Exercises may include:

  • Joins various – overhead, downwind, base leg (L or R), crosswind
  • Circuits – Various
  • Stabilised approach
  • Correct positioning & RT
  • Situational awareness (SA)
  • Final approach to landing technique.
  • Landing smoothly. Crosswind landings.  Short field.
  • Correct RT calls
  • Wind assessment
IMPROVE YOUR GENERAL HANDLING SKILLS - INTRO TO AEROBATICS

Most pilots will be aware of parts of their flying they’d like to improve, such as joining procedures, transiting controlled airspace, “lost” procedures, flying circuits accurately etc.

We will happily help you address your specific challenges.

We will tailor training to your specific requirements to help make you a better, more confident and more accurate pilot.

We specialise in exploring the whole of the flight envelope using scenario based training to help you better understand where you may get into trouble in the real world; it may just save your life.

UPRT - UPSET PREVENTION AND RECOVERY TRAINING FOR FOR GA PILOTS

Our General Aviation (GA) UPRT training will make you much better prepared to avoid, recognise and recover from flight upsets.  Your confidence will also be much improved.

Many GA pilots have little experience of flight outside the cruising performance envelope and are therefore most at risk of both not being able to avoid a flight upset in the first instance and may be poorly equipped to deal with loss of control in flight.

We offer a full day (2 flight) comprehensive course or a half day (1 flight) introduction to UPRT (which can also be used for your SEP Revalidation hour with an instructor).

Loss of Control in Flight (LOC-I) is the single largest cause of accidents and fatalities in General Aviation – in most cases the aircraft was still flyable.

You will learn both preventative techniques and recovery skills.

Gentle flights – G-forces only from 0.5G to 2.5G – no aerobatics or spinning.
